Professional Series Workshops

First Train Home offers multi-day workshops geared towards professional animal trainers who are interested in getting more involved in their local sheltering community. Our most popular 3-day workshop includes:

  • Ethology: who dogs are as a species
  • Canine Body Language
  • Applied Behavior Analysis
  • Enrichment
  • Electives: choose from our large list of electives with topics like Inter- and Intra-specific Aggression, Puppy Development, and Working with the Public!

Learning is more than listening.

Learning isn’t a spectator sport. Learning should be about discussing, creative thinking, applying, and fun! Listening is just a part of that. Our multi-day workshops involve not only presentations with engaging speakers but also plenty of time for discussion, activities, and hands-on time with animals.

Learning is a lifelong process.

If you’re anything like us you attend a workshop or seminar, fill your page margins with a ton of ideas to implement when you get home, and then leave. And promptly file away your notes on the bookshelf and remember about 10% of what you learned and about 5% of what you wanted to do with that knowledge. Our workshops aren’t magic; that’s going to happen with a First Train Home workshop too. That’s because learning is not a one-and-done activity; it’s a lifelong process.

Attending a First Train Home workshop is different in that you join our community. Our workshop series build upon themselves to keep you learning at a comfortable and manageable speed. Our workshop attendee Facebook group allows you to connect with others who are part of our community. Continuing education is built into our model and resource development is an ongoing process.
